few words from Nicolas

A very short album 'for my own serie'. But extremely meanigfull.

It is Gerard Frémy when I was 18 that introduced me to the music of John Cage. Gerard worked with John and did many creation of his music. As you can guess, Gerard introduced me to John philosophy and how to render those eerie sounds.

It many years after that I was able to perform this music on concert stage, starting at the West Palm Beach International Festival for an homage to the 50th anniversary of John's death. As much as I remember, I performed In a Landscape with pieces of Chopin & Liszt (my competition program at this time). And the american public was amazed to discover this music from their own composer (that no one was performed at this time, with the exeption time to time of the Sonatas for prepared piano).

After that, those 2 pieces were always part of my Night of Minimal pianos concerts, as they are a bit too long for a regular program.

In the John Cage production, those 2 tracks are very unique. Cage composed them at the earliest stage of his composition career. They are part of what it is usually called the "Zen like" period. And indeed, this is the best description you can do about them.

The music is slow, fluid and like a never ending slow river of dark and meditative sounds. It is very calm and moody and I love them tremendously !

I really hope I can share with you all the love that I have for those pieces !

Also, this recording is an Homage to the Memory of Gérard Frémy !
